Every year the FUW and its members raise a large amount of money for our President's nominated charities. This year we are proud to support two worthy charities: The Farming Community Network (FCN) and the Alzheimer's Society Cymru.

The Farming Community Network (FCN) is a charity that supports farmers and families within the farming community through difficult times. FCN is a network of over 400 volunteers, with around 40 based in Wales, many of whom are involved in farming, or have close links with agriculture and therefore have a great understanding of the issues farmers and farming families regularly face. FCN runs a confidential national helpline and e-helpline which is open every day of the year from 7am-11pm. Volunteers provide free, confidential, pastoral and practical support to anyone who seeks help, whether the issue is personal or business-related.

Alzheimer's Society Cymru

Dementia is the leading cause of death in Wales, destroying memories, relationships and identities. Delaying the onset of dementia by just 5 years would halve the numbers of deaths from the condition, saving 30,000 lives a year. By supporting this service, we will be supporting the people affected by the condition in both rural and urban communities across Wales.

Charity walk 2019

Staff and members of the FUW will be stepping out to support the president’s charities in an attempt to walk a total of 870 miles - the circumference of Wales!

The aim is to encourage even more participants in this year’s walk as we come together to meet the challenge. The day will be a fun occasion - it’s not a competition and no-one will be left behind.

Three different ability groups will set off from Tan-y-Bwlch beach, Aberystwyth on June 21, walking south along the coast path, with the aim of completing the combined distance.

Organiser and policy officer Charlotte Priddy said: “We’re hoping for a great response from both FUW staff and members alike with a choice of walks for serious hikers and gentle ramblers. At the end of the day we will head back to FUW headquarters in Gogerddan, Penrhyncoch, for a beer and a BBQ to celebrate our combined achievements.”

Choose your route:

• 40 miles - Ynyslas to Aberystwyth night before, then join with 25 mile group

• 25 miles - Aberystwyth to Llanrhystud and back

• 10 miles - Aberystwyth to Blaenplwyf and back
