Montgomeryshire Day brings the best of local food, farming and tourism to the Senedd
On Tuesday (11 November), FUW’s Montgomeryshire Branch joined local businesses, stakeholders, MSs and a local school choir to celebrate Montgomeryshire Day with a reception in the Senedd.
The event, kindly hosted by Russell George MS, showcased the breadth and depth of the county’s rural enterprise - ranging from family farms and heritage wool to award-winning food and drink and unique tourism experiences - while giving businesses a platform to make new connections and share their priorities for growth.
The event was accompanied by fantastic performances from Ysgol Gymraeg Y Trallwng, who travelled from Welshpool to sing at the event - including a rendition of Calon Lân, where they were joined on stage by First Minister Eluned Morgan MS.
Exhibitors included the Farmers’ Union of Wales (FUW), Montgomery Young Farmers (YFC), British Wool Marketing Board, Graig Farm Organics, Vintage Land Rover Tours, Wild Welsh Wool, Get Jerky, Cambrian Training, Caws Gynog, Montgomery Waters, Radnor Preserves, Sun Gin, Bettws Hall, Monty’s Brewery, The Welsh High Street and Mid Wales Tourism.
Commenting afterwards, Wyn Williams, FUW Montgomeryshire Chair said: “We are extremely grateful to Russell George MS for hosting this fantastic event, which brought the very best of Montgomeryshire to the heart of Cardiff Bay. It was a pleasure to see so many producers, rural businesses and community organisations come together to showcase the quality, innovation, and strong sense of community that define our area - and to highlight the vital role that agriculture continues to play in the wider rural economy.
"We were also delighted by the strong cross-party attendance from Members of the Senedd. A particular highlight was seeing the First Minister join pupils from Ysgol Gymraeg Y Trallwng on stage for a wonderful rendition of Calon Lân - a moment that perfectly captured the spirit of the day.”
Montgomeryshire MS, Russell George added: “Montgomeryshire Day is about giving our local businesses and organisations a national platform. The quality, craft and innovation on show at the Senedd spoke for themselves - our area is one which punches well above its weight.
"From food and drink to wool, hospitality and outdoor experiences, these enterprises create jobs, sustain supply chains and keep our communities vibrant. I’m grateful to every exhibitor who travelled to Cardiff Bay and to colleagues who came to show their support.
"I want to say a massive thank you and well done to the children of Ysgol Gymraeg Y Trallwng for their spectacular performance, and also to the FUW for helping us to put on such a well-attended, successful event.”
