Description:
The Union is now seeking a new Head of Policy to lead its Agricultural Policy Department due to the retirement of the current Head of Policy. The successful applicant will have a thorough knowledge and understanding of agricultural policy, ideally with a focus on Wales. An understanding of the devolution settlement is crucial as is an appreciation of the impact of global trade on the agricultural sector.
The Head of Policy will be responsible for the day-to-day management of all policy department staff and the administration of the Policy Department. In addition, the Head of Policy will also take charge of key policy areas based on their experience, background and expertise. The successful candidate will work alongside FUW staff in seeking to further the interests of the Union and its membership. The Head of Policy will also need to maintain and develop constructive relationships with Senedd Members, Members of Parliament and other organisations and stakeholders.
Applicants should have excellent verbal and written skills and be educated to a degree level or higher. The ability to communicate in Welsh is desirable.
Where suitable, the successful applicant may choose to work remotely from home or from one of the FUW’s thirteen offices located throughout Wales. However, the Head of Policy will also be expected to be present in person for a minimum number of meetings with policy staff and others at the union’s Head Office near Aberystwyth, Ceredigion.
