A Bingo night organised by the Farmers’ Union of Wales Carmarthen branch has successfully raised £235 for the FUW President’s charities - Alzheimers’ Society Cymru and The Farming Community Network.

The event was held at Talardd Arms, Llanllwni, on Tuesday, 16 January and was well attended by members and friends of the Union.

David Waters, the County Executive Officer for Carmarthenshire , said: “I would like to thank you all for joining us for a fun evening of Bingo, it was a good laugh and I look forward to many more fundraising events this year for our very worthy charities.”

Montgomeryshire farmers opened up their kitchens to promote the quality premium local produce that farmers grow for us every day of the year and throughout the FUW’s farmhouse breakfast week put a spotlight on the importance of our rural economy.

As part of the campaign, the Union’s Montgomeryshire branch organised  three breakfasts which were held at Pen Y Derw, Forden, Welshpool, Camnant, Dolfor, Newtown and at Plas Du, Llanrhaeadr Ym Mochnant, Nr Oswestry and raised a fantastic £1250 for charity.

The money raised will be donated to the FUW’s charitable causes - Alzheimer’s Society Cymru and the Farming Community Network, as well as a percentage going to the Royal Welsh Show as Montgomeryshire is this year’s feature county.

FUW Montgomeryshire CEO Emyr Wyn Davies said: “There really is no better place for bonding people together and sharing ideas than over good food and that’s exactly what we did during farmhouse breakfast week.

“It was great that our local politicians Russell George AM and Glyn Davies MP could join us around the breakfast table -  we enjoyed discussing many #FarmingMatters with them and our members also welcomed the opportunity to share their thoughts and worries about the state of the industry with them and each other.

“It was overall a great opportunity to raise the profile of Welsh produce and the breakfasts highlighted the important role the food and drink sector plays in every person's life.

“A special thank you however must go to all the staff and hosts which helped to make our Breakfasts in the county such a success. We are also grateful to the sponsors of the Breakfasts and last but not least a special thank you to the people that attended and donated.”

Carmarthen farmers showcased the quality food on offer for breakfast during the Farmers’ Union of Wales’ farmhouse breakfast week and raised £550 for the FUW President’s charities - Alzheimer’s Society Cymru and The Farming Community Network.

The first breakfast was held at Llanarthne Hall with a Burns tartan theme, and a second breakfast was held at Llanewydd Community Hall, with  Emma and Neil Rose of Rhosyn Farm in charge of cooking up a breakfast storm.

The two breakfasts raised the profile of Welsh produce and helped to highlight the important role the food and drink sector plays in our everyday lives.

Nerys Edwards, the FUW’s Carmarthen County Executive Officer Assistant in charge of organising the breakfast functions, said: “We had a great turn out and lots of support from our members and enjoyed talking to Jonathan Edwards MP about #FarmingMatters and Brexit. A special thank you must also go to the staff and volunteers who helped make these breakfasts such a success.

“And as well as raising a great amount of money for charity, we used the opportunity to show decision makers who joined us at the breakfast table how vital a part farmers play in maintaining our rural communities, sustaining a viable and profitable agricultural sector and of course producing excellent food.”

The Gwent Branch of the Farmers’ Union of Wales held 2 farmhouse breakfast events in support of Alzheimer’s Society Cymru and the Farming Community Network raising a fantastic £680.00.

FUW Gwent CEO Glyn Davies said: “I would like to thank all those who made this possible, particularly hosts Chris and Jill Lewis of Trevine Farm, Abergavenny and Mr Howard Vicary of Ty Oakley Farm, Hafodyrynys.  

“Their enthusiasm and generosity in opening up their farm houses for the morning highlights the tremendous spirit which exists within the county.  Special thanks also to executive member Mr Les Murphy who took on the role of head chef at both events with great expertise.

“The 2 events were a wonderful opportunity to engage with the rural community with great support from the Local Authorities, Farmers, Sales Representatives and local Landowners. We were also pleased to welcome Rhia Stankovic, the local Alzheimer’s Society Cymru representative to both events.”

The county office also gives thanks to Waitrose Abergavenny, Aldi Spytty Road Newport, Farmers Fresh and Mynydd Cig Cymru for their kind donations to the events.

To further support the nominated charities the Gwent branch are planning to hold a wooden horse race evening at Ty – Oakley Farm, Hafodyrynys, on June 30th.

Those living in the county of Meirionnydd enjoyed a farmhouse breakfast bonanza at the end of January, with the local Farmers’ Union of Wales (FUW) team hosting a total of four farmhouse breakfasts.

The events were held as part of the FUW’s Farmhouse breakfast week campaign and raised the profile of Welsh produce and got politicians, key stakeholders and the general public to understand the important role the food and drink sector plays in their everyday lives.

“We built on the success of previous years in Meirionnydd, and our 4 breakfast events were a great success. Again we are grateful to everyone for the support and co-operation, and of course to those sponsored the events, as well as our keynote speakers Dyfrig Siencyn, leader of Gwynedd County Council, Glyn Roberts, FUW President, well-known tenor Aled Wyn Davies, Pentremawr, Llanbrynmair and Liz Saville Roberts MP for Dwyfor Meirionnydd,” said FUW Meirionnydd County Executive Officer Huw Jones.

In order to promote the health benefits but also the variety of top quality Welsh breakfast produce available, the Denbighshire branch of the Farmers’ Union of Wales hosted a farmhouse style breakfast on Saturday, January 27 at Llansannan Village Hall.

The breakfast, which was organised as part of the FUW’s Farmhouse breakfast week campaign, raised £800 for the Union’s charitable causes - Alzheimer’s Society Cymru and the Farming Community Network.

Mari Dafydd Jones, the FUW’s Denbigh and Flint CEO, said: “We had a great turn out and lots of support from our members and there really is no better place for bonding people together and sharing ideas than over good food and that’s exactly what we did with our breakfast.

“I would like to thank everyone who donated and helped on the day, including Butchers - Clwyd Dowell, J Williams 'Blas Da', J H Jones a'i gwmni, AL & RO Jones, Llanrwst, C Williams, Llandyrnog, as well as Llaeth y Llan, Bara Henllan, Clyttir Eggs, Co-op Denbigh and Llanrwst, Siop Llangernyw, Bys a Bawd and Spar Llanrwst, and Aldi Denbigh.”
