Assembly Members and key stakeholders, who joined the Farmers’ Union of Wales (FUW) at its annual farmhouse breakfast in Cardiff (Tuesday, January 23) heard how the Union has established three working groups to demonstrate the positive impact that the farming sector has on delivering the goals of the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act.

Speaking at the breakfast, FUW President Glyn Roberts said: “Those of you familiar with the FUW will know that we pride ourselves on being a grassroots organisation which provides a voice for Welsh farmers, and Welsh farmers alone. We also like to think that we are an organisation that makes maximum use of data and analysis. Evidenced based decision making as it’s known.

“Therefore I am pleased to announce today that in line with these principles we have established three focus groups which will look at identifying strengths, weaknesses and opportunities for our key sectors based on the detailed annual breakdowns of farm costs and outputs provided by Aberystwyth University’s Farm Business Survey.”

Farmers from Denbighshire are inviting you to join them for breakfast, as part of the Farmers’ Union of Wales (FUW) breakfast campaign, which aims to promote the quality premium local produce that farmers grow for us every day of the year.

The FUW’s Denbigh branch has arranged a breakfast on Saturday, January 27 at Llansannan  Village Hall, which will start at 8am.
Mari Dafydd Jones, the FUW’s Denbigh and Flint CEO, said: “I would like to invite you all to join us for breakfast at Llansannan Village hall. There really is no better place for bonding people together and sharing ideas than over good food and that’s exactly what we intend to do with these breakfast functions.

“We want you to be a part of what we do, and share your thoughts and worries about the state of the industry, tell us your stories and help us to understand how we can help each other, so why not give us a call in the office and book your seat at our table?”

The Meirionnydd branch of the Farmers’ Union of Wales is holding its annual general meeting themed “Achieving the correct balance between farming and conservation for the future”.

The event is held on Friday, January 26 at Neuadd Ysgol Y Parc, near Bala, LL23 7YW and will start at 7.30pm and is open to all.

Guest speakers on the night are Owain Wyn, Snowdonia National Park Chairman, Richard Tudor, Llysun Farm, Llanerfyl, near Welshpool and Tim Jones, Operations Manager of Natural Resources Wales, for North and Mid Wales.

FUW Meirionnydd CEO Huw Jones said: “At a time of recent important announcements in the context of agricultural support for the future and the formation of agricultural policy following Brexit, this should be a thought-provoking theme for members and farmers. I hope many of you can join us on the night.”

A warm welcome and mouth-watering smells await those joining the Gwent and Glamorgan breakfast functions, which have been organised as part of the FUW’s Farmhouse breakfast week campaign (January 22 – January 27).

The events are being held on:

Tuesday January 23, at Trevine Farm, Llantillio Crosenny, Abergavenny.

Friday January 26, at Ty Oakley Farm, Hafodyrynys, Crumlin, Newport.

The FUW campaign aims to raise the profile of Welsh produce and get politicians, key stakeholders and the general public to really understand the important role the food and drink sector plays in their everyday lives.

Do you make time for breakfast every day, or are you always just a little bit too busy? Maybe you’re not quite sure what to have for breakfast or just don’t like eating alone. Then why not join the Farmers’ Union of Wales Carmarthen team for breakfast?

The first breakfast has been arranged for Thursday January 25, at Llanarthne Hall, SA32 8JD where  Emma and Neil Rose of Rhosyn Farm are in charge of breakfast, using their own home-made sausages, bacon, black pudding and fresh eggs straight from the farm and will be cooking a Burns tartan themed breakfast .

The couple take pride in breeding their own stock, outdoor rearing in the most idyllic surroundings in Carmarthenshire and giving their animals the best quality of care and attention during their time on the farm.

Farming pockets of land covering approximately 100 acres, they use both the Gloucester Old Spots and Herdwicks for clearing the rough ground before returning to pasture, which certainly adds to the taste of the meat that Rhosyn produce. That’s something you will be able to judge and of course enjoy for yourselves if you join the breakfast at Llanarthne Hall.
