The 2022 Drought Experience in Wales Webinar

The Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) is hosting a

webinar that will provide an overview of drought management in Wales and a synopsis of the hydrological highlights and sequence of events during 2022.

The webinar will take place on the 16th March 2023 between 4pm and 5.30pm and is free to attend.

In 2022 between March and September Wales received just 63.8% of its expected rainfall, the driest seven-month period in 150 years. As a result, Drought was declared for much of the summer across the whole of Wales, only going into recovery after welcome autumn rainfall in late November 2022.

Three speakers, including Gareth Parry, FUW Senior Policy and Communications Officer, will each provide an overview of the droughts’ impacts from the perspective of the environment, land management, water users, agriculture and water supply providers. They will review the actions taken in response to the drought and discuss lessons learnt to consider when managing and planning for droughts in the future.

Following the presentations, there will be a Q&A session.
