From 1 October 2024 it will become a legal requirement for all bird keepers in Wales (except
keepers of pet birds without any outside access) to register as a bird/poultry keeper on the
GB Poultry Register.
This change will allow Welsh Government to communicate with all bird keepers in Wales, in
the event of an avian disease outbreak
, and encourage all keepers to register ahead of
the deadline.
Bird keepers will be required to review their registered data on an annual basis.
As part of the CPH Review, the independent reviewer will be tasked with considering a
streamlined proposal for bird keeper registrations that will enable better traceability and
mapping of livestock.
How will CPH effect the new bird registration requirements?
Keepers that already have a CPH for livestock can use the same CPH for their bird
registration. Keepers that do not hold a CPH will need to complete the registration process
by contacting APHA.
