FUW seeks nominations for outstanding contribution award

The Farmers’ Union of Wales (FUW) is once again looking to recognise an individual who has made a great contribution towards the development of the dairy industry and has become an integral part of the dairy industry in Wales.

To recognise such a person the Union is seeking nominations for its FUW Outstanding Service to the Welsh Dairy Industry award. The winner will be announced, and the presentation made, at this year’s Welsh Dairy Show on 24th October 2023.

Carbon Trading - What does it mean?

To reach Net Zero emissions by 2050, a combination of emissions reduction and carbon removal will be needed. 

For many farmers this means focusing on reducing their own business emissions, carbon auditing, working with their supply chain, improving productive efficiency and increasing carbon sequestration on-farm.

Welsh food and drink exports reach new high

The Welsh Government has announced that the Welsh food and drink industry’s exports increased by £157 million between 2021 and 2022, representing a 24.5% rise.

This is a larger percentage increase than the UK as a whole, which grew by 21.6%.

Meat and meat products were the highest value category at £265 million, a 42% increase from 2021, followed by cereal and cereal preparations which rose 16% to £160 million.

Hybu Cig Cymru also reported that fresh and frozen sheep meat exports from the UK performed well in the first six months of 2023, recording a 14% year-on-year increase - while imports fell considerably.
