Rural Payments Wales has published its updated ‘When the inspector calls’ guidance for farmers preparing for an inspection.
Farm inspections take place on a sample number of farms each year to ensure that farmers are complying with the rules and regulations they are required to abide by, as a condition of receiving financial support or as a result of keeping livestock.
Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales (HCC) has announced a new pilot project, which aims to boost the profitability and sustainability of the Welsh beef sector.
The project – Decarbonising PGI Welsh Beef – will appraise the impact of varying the age of finishing beef cattle on both economic return and greenhouse gas emissions.
A new forensic research project run by Liverpool John Moores University is working with police, vets and farmers to improve the collection of offending dog DNA from attacked livestock. This research, led by Dr Nick Dawnay, forms part of the wider Canine DNA Recovery Project (CDnaRP) that aims to develop, promote and apply best practice methods for the collection and analysis of canine DNA from attacked livestock and wildlife.
Following an announcement last week (15 April), the long-awaited appointment of the Bovine TB Technical Advisory Group (TAG) met for the first time, with the Chair Professor Glyn Hewinson, Sêr Cymru Chair of the TB Centre of Excellence, leading the group.
The ten publicly appointed members consist of a wealth of knowledge covering social sciences, epidemiology and veterinary medicine. However, questions have been raised concerning the absence of farmer representatives on the group.
