FUW Cupcakes help fight against dementia

The Glamorgan branch of the Farmers’ Union of Wales joined the battle against dementia with cupcakes at the recent official Cup Cake Day.

The little cakes raised over £400 for Alzheimer’s Society Cymru and were sold outside the FUW offices in Cowbridge.

Glamorgan CEO Rachel Saunders said: “ We had such a fantastic day and I would like to thank everyone who supported us, including our members and the general public who were passing the office. I’m really happy that we managed to raise so much money for this worthy cause.

“A special thank you however has to go to my sister Catherine Taylor, who gets the star baker award for baking all of the delicious cupcakes!”

Alzheimer’s Society Cymru Community Fundraiser – SE Wales ,Cheryl George,  also supported the event in Cowbridge and bought a whole plate of cakes.

She said: “I would like to extend a huge thank you to Farmers’ Union Wales for uniting with us against dementia to support people affected by the condition across Wales  through the cupcake day initiative.

“Dementia research is desperately underfunded and there are not enough researchers and clinicians joining the fight against dementia. Five times fewer researchers choose to work on dementia than on cancer.

“Alzheimer's Society is committed to spending at least £150 million over the next decade on dementia research to improve care for people today and find a cure for tomorrow. This includes £50 million to develop the UK’s first dedicated Dementia Research Institute and every penny raised will help us achieve that goal.”
