It’s the end of an era. Young farmers are officially old when they reach 26.
But now the FUW has set up a new way of keeping in touch for the over 20s, with a special home targeted at giving younger farmers the chance to keep in touch - and keep on enjoying meeting up.
The FUW Academi, which was launched at the Royal Welsh Show (Tuesday, 23 July), promises all year round activities and events through a network of groups which provide a focus for gathering together, and catching up on the latest farming practices.
Three FUW Academi field trips every year will be organised through the FUW’s unique county office structure, providing a variety of farm visits and other experiences, keeping the not so old in touch with latest farming developments and more.
There’s a regular online Agricultural bulletin with all the latest news and advice on grants, training and partnerships; B+E trailer training and test, discounted down to £420 from £600, fully funded training programmes, FUW member discounts and a monthly copy of ‘Y Tir’ included in the package which costs just £4.50 a month.
“We want to make sure that younger farmers and other rural industry are still plugged in to all the latest in what’s happening in rural Wales,” said FUW’s Membership & Operations Manager Caryl Roberts. “It’s the perfect next step for members who are leaving the competing age of the YFC - and what’s more we’ll throw in a free FUW beanie hat.”
