Those attending the National Eisteddfod in Llanrwst next week, can look forward to a mouthwatering and busy program of events at the Farmers’ Union of Wales stand.
From cooking demonstrations by local chefs Gerwyn Williams, owner and head chef at Bistro Betws y Coed, and Mel Thomas to appearances by popular Welsh Children’s characters Sali Mali, Fireman Sam, SuperTed and others, along with the opportunity to meet and discuss rural crime matters with the North Wales’ Police Rural Crime team, the FUW’s Caernarfonshire and Denbighshire branches have spared no effort to put on a variety of events throughout the week, which are suitable for all ages.
FUW’s 2 local County Executive Officers Gwynedd Watkin and Mari Jones are looking forward to the event.
Gwynedd commented: “We have a wonderful week ahead of us at the Eisteddfod this year, two local chefs will be giving us cooking demonstrations by using local produce. Seminars are being held in the Pabell y Cymdeithasau on topics that concern us all.”
Mari added: “Famous S4C children’s characters will be popping in, we have a chance to win a large sheep cuddly toy, and of course there will be plenty of #FarmingMatters chats held over a cup of tea and a slice of cake. A warm welcome awaits everyone who joins us on the Maes and we look forward to seeing you all there.”

11:00 FUW Seminar Pabell y Cymdeithasau - ‘Wild with re-wilding’. Following the successful seminar on re-wilding held at the Royal Welsh Show, the discussion will continue at the Eisteddfod exploring the difference between conservation and re-wilding or whether they’re the same thing.
The seminar will be Chaired by BBC reporter John Meredith with Glyn Roberts FUW President, Dr Prysor Williams Bangor University.
Speaking ahead of the seminar, FUW President Glyn Roberts said: “In 2018 Rewilding Britain launched its flagship 'Summit to Sea' rewilding project, focussed on 240 square miles of Mid Wales, raising many concerns among residents, conservationists and farmers.
“Some argue that rewilding is the creation of ecosystems where human influences and control over vast areas of land are removed, and species such as large predators create self-regulating environments devoid of human interactions.
“Others argue that rewilding is merely a new and exciting approach to conservation. The seminar will explore whether farmers and their livestock are keystone species in ecosystems or a hindrance to conservation, and whether conservation and rewilding are two sides of the same coin, or competing policies which are poles apart.”

11:00 FUW seminar: Is there a future for Rural Wales? With Guto Bebb MP, Conwy County Council,
Deputy Leader Goronwy Edwards and others.
Concerned about the economy and rural way of life in Wales in light of Brexit, Union President Glyn Roberts said: “The threat of a no deal Brexit could see the devastation of rural Wales. And it won’t only be farmers suffering but all the secondary and tertiary business that rely on agriculture. This is why our campaign #FarmingMatters goes beyond the farm yard and highlights the crucial role farming plays in keeping the wheels of our economy turning. I would encourage anyone to join us for this important discussion which will discuss the future of rural Wales.”
