FUW Meirionnydd looks forward to busy County Show

The Meirionnydd branch of the Farmers’ Union of Wales is looking forward to a busy day at the County Show (Wednesday, 22 August), which will be held at the Rhug Estate in Corwen.

The Meirionnydd County Show this year will be a very special occasion, as it is celebrating 150 years since its establishment. The first County Show was held at the Rhiwlas Estate, Y Bala in 1868.

 

FUW Meirionnydd County Executive Officer Huw Jones said: “We look forward to discussing #FarmingMatters and #FairFarmFunding at the stand with our members and elected politicians and extend a warm welcome for members, guests and friends of the FUW as in previous years to join us on the day.

 

Dwyfor Meirionnydd AM Dafydd Elis-Thomas will be present at the stand between 12noon and 1pm, and Liz Saville Roberts MP present between 2pm and 3pm to meet Union officials and individual members. This year, the main topic of conversation will undoubtedly be the consultation paper Brexit and Our Land: Securing the Future of Welsh Farming.

 

“Union officials, staff and FUW President Glyn Roberts, will be on hand to answer questions our members may have. The County Branch is once again extremely grateful to Merched yr Undeb throughout the county for taking responsibility for the refreshments on the stand.”

 

In addition, joining the FUW on the day are FWAG Director Dr Glenda Thomas between 11am and 12noon, Farming Connect Meirionnydd Development Officer Eryl P Roberts will be present between 1pm and 3pm.

 

North Wales Police and Crime commissioner Arfon Jones will also be present, together with Con Dewi Evans and members of the Rural Crime Team.

Representatives of the Union’s chosen charities will be present at the stand throughout the day, namely Alzheimer’s Society Cymru and the FCN ‘Farming Community Network’. They will be raising awareness of their work in rural areas.

 

As in previous years, staff and representatives of FUW Insurance Services Ltd will be on hand to answer any questions or queries from members and clients as required.
