Hybu Cig Cymru in partnership as part of a large consortium of industry and academic organisations is looking for 20 enthusiastic case study farms across Wales, England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, who want to find cost-effective solutions to reduce GHG emissions.
The aim of the ‘Breeding better beef and sheep’ project is to help UK red meat producers make better breeding decisions that are also practical and affordable.
Suitable farms may be pure beef, sheep or mixed but must rear their own replacements.
You must be able to attend two half-day workshops; the first taking place in Aberystwyth on Tuesday, 25 February from 11am-3pm (focusing on breeding strategies) and the second workshop in the Summer to discuss project results.
You must be willing to share relevant farm data (incl. performance and financial data) so that a cost-benefit analysis of breeding strategies can be conducted, and complete a carbon footprint assessment using 'Agrecalc’, with support.
Case study farms that provide data and complete a carbon footprint assessment will receive a one-off payment of £250 for participating n the study. In addition, farmers will have the benefit of identifying cost-effective and sustainable breeding strategies targeted to their farm.
All farmers who are interested in participating in the workshops voluntarily even if they are unable to commit to the project's data requirements are also welcomed.
