Farmers urged to ensure they have legal cover for their business

Farmers across Wales are urged to ensure they have the right legal cover for their businesses to avoid finding themselves defenceless in a legal situation.

Legal cover provides legal assistance in the event that it is needed for situations such as HMRC or Health and Safety Executive investigations, animal rights activists, a fatal farm accident or rent arbitrations.

FUW Insurance Services Ltd are now offering a new product ‘Rural Protect’ by HB underwriting which is a management liability cover which covers the needs of farmers to protect everyone in their business.

Tackling antimicrobial use and resistance in food producing animals: Lessons learned in the United Kingdom

A report has been published by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) and the Veterinary Medicines Directorate telling the story of how the UK has successfully implemented measures to reduce the unnecessary use of antibiotics in farming and achieved the halving of antibiotic sales in animals since 2014 and over the same period, the use of highest-priority critically important antibiotics has reduced by 79%.

The United Kingdom approach has differed to many other countries when developing its system of antibiotic stewardship. Rather than regulating, the government has worked in collaboration with farmers and vets, supporting them to lead action on reducing the unnecessary use of antibiotics.

Each farming sector has individually developed tailored approaches, improving husbandry and adopting disease prevention measures to reduce reliance on antibiotics.

Agriculture (Wales) Bill is half way there says FUW

The Farmers’ Union of Wales (FUW) has commented on the newly laid Agriculture (Wales) Bill, saying that the overarching piece of legislation is half way there in providing a stable footing for the future of agriculture in Wales.

The first draft of the Bill along with its supporting documentation was laid in front of the Senedd yesterday, 26 September, by Minister for Rural Affairs and North Wales, and Trefnydd, Lesley Griffiths, ahead of a debate in the Senedd this afternoon.

The first ever Agriculture Bill for Wales has been laid, providing the opportunity to develop farming policies which could truly benefit those living and working in Wales. The Bill will set out the overarching legislation and drive the biggest change for Welsh agriculture since the UK joined the European Union.
