Young Farmers Field Day at Ruthin Livestock Market

On 23rd April, Clwyd Federation hosted the Wales YFC Field Day at the Ruthin Livestock Market. It was a fun-filled day with a great turnout from all counties, and the standard of the competition was once again very high, even after a break of two years between the last Field Day and now!

The day was kindly sponsored by Wynnstay, who also supplied the fencing materials for the Junior Fencing compeititon. Menter a Busnes also sponsored the Farm Machinery Skills competition, with Mona Tractors Co. Ltd and Emyr Evans a'i gwmni cyf. kindly loaning the machinery for the competitions.

Overall winners of the day were the Brecknock Federation, who collected an array of trophies on the day. Both Junior and Senior fencing competitions were won by the county, as well as member Rhian Lewis winning the Senior Stockman of the Year competition. Thomas Pritchard also won first place in the auctionneering competition; it was great to see all the competitors in action!

Carmarthenshire Federation followed in second place in the overall standings, with Pembrokeshire taking third.

The overall Senior Stockjudging team trophy went to Radnor this year, with the junior trophy going to Carmarthenshire. Wales YFC are also very grateful to all friends of Clwyd YFC who supplied the stock for the stockjudging competitions.

The Farm Machinery Skills competition winners were Pembrokeshire, with Caryl Bevan also taking home the Sir Lynne Thomas Memorial Shield and Crystal Bowl as the best individual in the First Aid Section. (Pictured)

In the midst of all the competitions was the Sheepdog Trials, with Elin Hope of Ceredigion YFC winning first place. (Pictured with her dog, Lass.)

“It was a privilege to represent Ceredigion at the Wales YFC field day and was over the moon when myself and Lass managed to win the Sheepdog Trial competition for our county. I always enjoy competing with Lass as she consistently performs well and gives her all in every competition which gives me the confidence and courage to do well.”

In conjunction with the Field Day successes, a few others also had incredible triumphs over the same weekend. Maendy YFC in Glamorgan won the NFYFC Pantomime competition, with Christina Thomas winning Best Female Actor for her portrayal of the Prince. Bedwas YFC, Gwent also came joint third, with Joseph Watkins winning Best Male Actor for his portrayal of Abanazar in their Pantomime Aladdin. Also, Raiff Devlin, Pontfaen YFC, Brecknock came second in the final of NFYFC’s Senior Member of the Year competition.

Wales YFC would like to thank Clwyd Federation for hosting such a successful Field Day, the volunteers, supporters and sponsors of the day. Also a huge thank you to our hard working and passionate members, who all have such a huge array of talents which can be witnessed not only locally, but also on a National level.
