It was great to see a crowd of young people from all over the country gather at Ruthin Mart on a sunny day during late April to compete and socialise after a rather miserable time.
The Field Day is held annually and is an opportunity for members of the Wales Young Farmers Clubs of all ages to come together to learn and share essential skills for working safely in agriculture.
Including activities such as fencing, farm machinery skills, sheep dog trials, Fferm Ffactor, auctioneering and junior and senior stock judging, there is enough variety for all keen young farmers to demonstrate their rural knowledge and skills when undertaking the various challenges during the day.
Our colleagues here in the Union were also successful, with Angharad Thomas our Marketing Coordinator winning 3rd place as part of the Carmarthenshire team and Libby Davies our Senedd and Parliamentary Affairs Officer and the Brecknock team taking 2nd place in the Senior Stockman of the year competition.
Our Communications Department also took the opportunity to attend the event for the first time ever, with a popular stand in the main hall where there was a lot of interest in our Academy.
More details on this will be in the next issue of Y Tir but in the meantime, if you are interested in joining the Academy, the first year of membership is available free of charge if you join at one of the events or shows over the summer while visiting our stand and talking to our staff.
Also a great opportunity to socialise, the Field Day brings people together after a long time without being able to see friends and neighbours and Glyn Roberts our President took the opportunity to have an interesting conversation with Chris Lewis, YFC President and Caryl Hâf, YFC Chairman when they called to see us on our stand.
