FUW Carmarthen looks forward to food park open day

The Carmarthen branch of the Farmers’ Union of Wales is looking forward to an open day at Castell Howell Foods in Cross Hands, which aims to raise vital funds for the Carmarthenshire Royal Welsh Agricultural Society Appeal.

The first ever Open Day will take place on Saturday 16 September 2017 starting at 6.30pm, with tickets available from the FUW’s Carmarthen office (01267 237974).

hose joining the event can look forward to a guided tour of the business between 6.30pm and 7.30pm, which will showcase approximately, 9,000 product lines in store and the state of the art meat processing/cutting plant where local meat is processed.

Castell Howell Foods is one of the biggest employers in Carmarthenshire, employing approximately 670 staff in the Group, generating a turnover of £110 million.

The ticket (£15 per person) also includes, either a Celtic Pride hog roast, or a Celtic Pride beef roll, Hot Dog or a traditional Celtic Pride burger.  A local band NEWSHAN will also be present and there will also be a tug of war, and a licensed bar.

Joining the event will be Dan Biggar, Ospreys, Wales and British and Irish Lions star player and a Brand Ambassador for Celtic Pride, together with a number of Scarlets players.

The Auction already includes a signed British and Irish Lions shirt, a signed Southern Kings, South Africa Guinness Pro 14 shirt has been promised, CLH/FUW Mesh Sided Livestock Trailer with Roof and a special box of Cuban Cigars has already arrived!

Joyce Owens, the FUW’s Carmarthen office administrative assistant, who is helping with the arrangements, said: “This promises to be an exciting event that gives us a great opportunity to raise vital funds for the Carmarthenshire Royal Welsh Agricultural Society Appeal. I’m hoping to see many of our members and friends of the Union there on the day.”

Founder and Managing Director of Castell Howell Foods, and President of the 2017 Royal Welsh Agricultural Society Brian Jones, said: “I am delighted to welcome everyone to the Food Park in Cross Hands. I hope that those visiting the Food Park will find it extremely interesting and look forward to seeing many of you there.”

Mr Jones added that he was immensely proud of the superb quality of the local meat processed at the Food Park under the Celtic Pride logo.

“Local farms produce animals of the highest quality and I am sure that they would be extremely interested in seeing the meat processing facility.”
