Funding window to re-open for on-farm trials in Wales

Farmers are being invited to apply for the next round of funding for The Try Out Fund. Previous Farming Connect-funded trials ranged from growing lucerne in Brecon to establishing sunflowers as a companion crop with maize, 

The new application window for the Try Out Fund opens on 27January2025 and will run until 17 February.

‘Breeding better beef and sheep’ project recruiting farmers

Hybu Cig Cymru in partnership as part of a large consortium of industry and academic organisations is looking for 20 enthusiastic case study farms across Wales, England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, who want to find cost-effective solutions to reduce GHG emissions. 

FUW comments on revised Sustainable Farming Scheme outline

On 25 November the Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs, Huw Irranca-Davies MS, issued a statement alongside a revised Sustainable Farming Scheme (SFS) outline and an executive summary of the Carbon Sequestration Evidence Review Panel findings.

Proposed National Park concerns highlighted to MP

Officials from Farmers’ Union of Wales (FUW) Montgomeryshire recently met with Montgomeryshire and Glyndŵr’s Member of Parliament, Steve Witherden MP to discuss concerns over a proposed National Park for north-east Wales, which could include a vast proportion of north Powys.
